Over the 15-year history of what is regarded as Australia’s premier half marathon the entrants have covered a staggering one million, four hundred and thirty-four thousand and eight hundred kilometres if you were to multiply the distance covered and the number of enrolments.

Not only is this 21.1km test of endurance, speed and tactics supported by Australia’s best distance athletes, but it is considered a virtual ‘must run’ by the dedicated distance runner. The course has also been described as the most picturesque half marathon in the world and few would argue with that

A sell-out for the last nine years, it is just not a race on event day but a race to gain entry into the event which adds more to the atmosphere surrounding the event. It is not just the capped field that provides mystique around the race but also the fact that if you unable to complete the first half of the course in 70 minutes you have to withdraw. A quick glance at The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon’s “winners and grinners” list emphasises its revered place on the national distance running calendar – Steve Moneghetti, Pat Carroll, Heather Turland, Andrew Lloyd, Kerryn McCann, Susie Power, Sisay Bezabah and Kenyan William Kiptum are all instantly recognisable names.
